Making the Home Feel More Relaxing

In this article, we look at how to make the bathroom and kitchen more relaxing. Hopefully they can help you makeover your home without the hassle.

For the bathroom:

If you have a bathtub in your bathroom, you’ve hit the jackpot!  Bathtub spells out R-E-L-A-X-A-T-I-O-N every single day. But if you don’t, do not despair. There are many other things you can do to change the way your bathroom look and feel. Unless your neighbours can peer in, you should open the windows allowing natural light to shine through your bathroom. Once in a while, place brightly coloured fresh flowers beside the sink or wherever suitable. You can steal the look of your favourite spa, simply by placing scented candles and stones at the sink or by the bathtub. If space is not an issue, place a small table or shelf at a corner. Put a bowl of potpourri, an aromatherapy diffuser, scented candles of different heights and colours, and some rolled up hand towels. Voila - You’ve just created a Balinese experience for yourself. Go one step further: For your shower, as an alternative, get a messaging showerhead. With these simple additions, you will be surprised at how much fun shower time is now!

For the kitchen:

The kitchen is a place where food is served. It should be relaxing too! The only way to make it relaxing is to make it harmonious and organised â€" clutter free. So, the first thing you should do is get organised. A simple way is to store items according to their categories. For example: Keep herbs and spices together; not with glassware. Keep prep tools near prep areas. You do not want to be walking across the room just to get your chopping board, knives, etc. If you store food items in cupboards and cabinets, make sure you clean them out regularly. Throw expired or unfinished items like crackers and cereals. For the refrigerator, consider having a “children snack” drawer for the kids.  In them, keep healthy snacks such as fruit, yoghurt, cheese and juice, a drawer that is easily accessible by the little ones. On your counter, you can place little pots of plants. Make sure they have soothing qualities. Go one step further: Replace ordinary lighting with decorative light fixtures. Switch them on and you will be turning on a cosy environment in your kitchen.

Follow these tips and you will have a cosy and relaxing home in no time. After all, a house is only a home if you are comfortable, right?
