Learn How to Stencil Anything (Wall, Closet Doors, Table Top etc)

Think your home looks dull? How about spicing things up with stencils? Stencils are one way you can add personal touch and show your creativity to just about anything! Simply put, stencil is an old technique that applies paint to a surface through a template. To achieve consistency, the template is reused and repeated. With just a little time and a dash of creativity, you can transform your wall, closet doors, table tops and any accessories to suit your taste and bring your room to life! To stencil, all you need are stencil designs, brushes and paint. Start by drawing your design on a piece of paper. You can also choose to print a photograph online. If you choose to draw your own design, outline the image clearly. This will be the cut out for your stencil. Make sure you outline to define the edges and details of your drawing. When you’re done with the drawing, print your design out on a regular piece of A4 paper. Use a marker to thicken design to ensure you have thick, clean lines. This will make it easier to create a template later on. Template It is now time to create your stencil template. Choose the material you want to use, i.e. cardboard (for large, simple stencils), paper works (for single-use stencils) or plastic/clear film. Cardboards are good for flat surfaces. Paper works can be used for both flat and rounded surfaces. Use plastic/clear films if you want to reuse the stencils for both flat and round surfaces. Tape your material to the stencil image with cellophane tape and cut out the areas of your image where you want the paint to show. You are now ready to transfer your stencil to your wall. Tape the template to where you want to your painting surface. You can now spray with the desired colour. Enjoy!
